The Meike 35mm f/1.8 Pro full-frame autofocus lens, which made its debut at China's P&E Exhibition in May 2025, was launched the day before yesterday. With a price of $379, it subverts the pricing system of original manufacturers. Positioned for full-frame systems, this lens focuses on cost-effective professional performance.
Its f/1.8 large aperture design emphasizes low-light shooting capability and background blurring effect. It consists of 10 groups and 12 elements, including 3 ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lenses and 2 aspherical lenses, with the surface coated with multi-layer nano high-definition coating. The 35mm focal length is compatible with landscape, portrait and street photography scenarios. It has a minimum focusing distance of 0.35 meters, supporting close-up shooting. Equipped with an STM (Stepping Motor), it achieves silent autofocus. The weight is controlled at 400 grams, with a metal mount structure.
The target groups are photographers, video creators and multi-scenario content producers. The price of $379 is much lower than that of similar lenses from original manufacturers, and the domestic price is also relatively lower than the overseas price. It covers mainstream mirrorless systems. At present, Nikon Z and L mounts have been launched, and the Sony E mount is expected to be shipped on August 16.
After its appearance at the 2025 P&E Exhibition, Meike has become a representative case of technical breakthroughs among Chinese lens manufacturers. Similar lenses from original manufacturers are much more expensive. For example, the price of Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 exceeds 4,000 yuan, and it has been around for a long time. The lightweight design is better than most competitors, and the silent STM motor and metal structure are the key points of promotion.
Meike was previously known for manual lenses such as the 85mm f/1.8. This autofocus version marks a technical upgrade. Meike has become the second Chinese brand, following Viltrox, to achieve optical performance of full-frame autofocus lenses comparable to high-end products from original manufacturers. However, its quality control and long-term reliability still need to be tested by the market. It is hoped that Meike will make steady progress with this lens, so that people can have enough confidence in it and really consider choosing it.
